Door Assist Vacuum Pump in trunk

Temporary Door Assist "Fix" Instructions

Temporary "fix" to the door assist system.  This technique will usually temporarily fix the door assist system by resetting the system.  How long the fix lasts depends on the condition of your door assist vacuum pump.  If the system just began to malfunction, then this fix often lasts for months.  Gradually, the duration of the fix will shorten to just minutes or hours.  At that point, a permanent repair by replacing the pump is necessary replacing.

1.  Go to trunk fuse box

2.  Remove fuses #3 and #9

3.  Count to 10

4.  Reinstall fuses #3 and #9

1.  Remove trunk liners

Turn off trunk lights Trunk latch - inside control.jpg (132623 bytes)

At trunk latch just inside trunk sill there is a small hole a handle with a slot in it is in that hole

Lift the small yellow handle of trunk latch interior control to turn off trunk lights and retract trunk handle

 

2.  Remove taillight assemblies

Rotate Dzuz fastener CCW Tail light assembly.jpg (121155 bytes)

Slide latch on wiring harness & remove Tail light assembly-2.jpg (110839 bytes)

3.  Remove trunk floor mat [38]

4.  Remove spare tire cover

Remove round retaining rivets [42]
L
ift out cover [41]

5.  Remove spare tire (optional)

Unscrew spare tire retainer [5]
Lift out spare tire

6.  Remove plastic trunk sill

Remove round retaining rivets with small screw driver [80]
Lift out retainers from hole in sill [80]
Lift off sill [77]

7.  Lift out battery cover  

Lift out battery cover [70]
Place old rag over battery positive terminal

8.  Remove trunk liner, right side

Remove round retaining rivets [62]
R
emove liner by pulling right rear corner towards center of trunk and working liner out [50]

9.  Remove trunk liner, left side

Remove round retaining rivets [62]
Remove liner by pulling right rear corner towards center of trunk and working liner out [47]

10. Remove rear seat package shelf speaker trim inside trunk

Crawl into trunk and look up at speakers
P
ull down 4 plastic circles under speakers

11. Remove trunk liner, front

Remove round retaining rivets [35]
Remove liner [32]

12. Remove Bose radio amplifier

Amp is over left rear shock absorber
Slide wiring connector latch to release
Unscrew cad-plated screws with Phillips #2
Slide amp out of mounting bracket

13. Remove vacuum pump

Pump is inside molded sound proofing box
It slides out to the rear
Lift cover on sound proofing and lift out pump
Do not disconnect vacuum lines until you have new pump to reconnect as you go

                                OR label vacuum lines

14.  Reassemble in reverse order
